About Me

My photo
When I was a child, the only things I wanted to play with were paper, scissors, colors, glue, tape ... Today, in my 60s, I still want to play with those things. The creative side of me crept into my careers in sales and producing expositions and special events. Even though I don't create for a living now, I seem to be driven just as much. There aren't too many mediums I haven't attempted, but my loves today are acrylics, jewelry, mixed media, and papier collage mosaics. I wish I could make myself work with just one thing, but that will never happen. I always said writing would be my last career. I am in heaven when someone trust me with their life story. I combine writing and art and produce their stories in a beautiful, hand-bound book. I also believe very strongly in positive thinking and affirmations. I write affirmations for people ... to help with every thing from sickness to a new baby to depression ... and produce them in artsy books. Affirmations work!

Changes are a'coming!

The next Lakewood 400 show will be my last for a while.  I'm set up at Cindy's Dragonfly on Highway 441 in Dillard, Ga.  Headed for the mountains?  Stop by.  It's a great shop and Cindy is a special lady you will enjoy meeting!

My home, Flatrock Mill, a Wildlife Sanctuary, Bed and Breakfast Guest Lodge, and Event Facility is showing signs of life again.  We have a wonderful wedding booked for October.  They were looking for a site to be more like a family reunion and Flatrock Mill is perfect.  That will also take some time.

Soooo ... don't miss the next Lakewood 400 show!

If ... Collage by jan jones

If everyone who reaches out could find someone who's reaching back ...
If everyone who's lost their way could find a guide for just one day...
If every man who has two hands could lend them to another man ...
Then peace could be shared across the land by everyone, my friend.

See this collage at the Lakewood 400 Market this week-end.

Positive Thinking!

I've spent the last two days helping a friend through surgery.  Even though he was the one experiencing the surgical trama, it took it's tole on me.  When I returned home, I asked to have pleasant dreams ... creative ones ... and to wake up ready to work again.  Boy, did I have great dreams.  So much so, I lingered in them until 11 o'clock this morning.  Affirmations are wonderful.  I read my affirmations every night reminding myself to dream beautiful dreams.  You wouldn't believe how many artistic problems I solve before I rise each morning.  I would love to hear how you use affirmations in your creative endeavors.

Magnetic Board

This was just for fun. I did four boards. Three went to a special gal's new college apartment. One remains. It has french scenes on the magnets.

Creative Shadowboxes

This artsy shadowbox includes my mother's diploma from Avondale High School, her class picture (group and individual) and a photo from the 40 year reunion she hosted. I pulled out her favorite teacher, Mrs. Rudy, and featured her, and peeking out from my mom's picture is one when she was 8. I've had so many people come into my shop that knew Avondale High and especially Mrs. Rudy. Shadowboxes can be any size, but they must be creative!

jjd Memory Box

This is my Memory Box featuring family photos. On this side is my great grandmother, my grandmother, and my mother. This is an art piece with enhancements. The top lifts off to store memorabilia inside. There is a glass box on top to store special items. Of the many I have created, I did them for a family of sisters, but my favorite also included an incredible book that I wrote to tell the love story of Marian and Arthur.
